All are welcome to this free celebration for all ages. In addition to cultural crafts and activities, the event will feature performances by an acclaimed combo from the celebrated JAZZ HOUSE KiDS as well as Unity Steppers Dance and Drill Team, and an interactive drum circle led by Life Center Stage.
Jazz is the music of resistance, resilience and change. Through this uniquely African-American art form, we celebrate Juneteenth by hosting a talented ensemble from Montclair’s JAZZ HOUSE KiDS. Come hear an hour of blues and jazz favorites brought to life by a combo of today’s most talented young musicians. Now in its 21st year, JAZZ HOUSE KiDS transforms lives using the power and legacy of jazz through world-class education and performances that create avenues of access, learning, career development and community building. The organization and students have received more than 125 awards and honors for excellence in jazz and jazz education. Every day of the week through a series of in-school and out-of-school programs, the JAZZ HOUSE prepares young people to become community leaders and global citizens, empowering them to find their voice both on and off the stage.
The Unity Steppers Dance & Drill team is a program out of Cornerstone Family Programs and Morristown Neighborhood House, and is open to boys and girls in grades K through 12. The group meets twice a week and is divided into Junior Varsity and Varsity based on age and skill. The Unity Steppers Dance & Drill Team performs at the Morristown Neighborhood House “Morristown Magic” basketball home games during halftime and local community events.
