Library Assistant II

Rate: $18.16/hour

Approximately 15 hours a week: Wednesdays 9:30-2:30, Friday 12:00-5, Saturday 9:30-3

The work: Library assistants are first and foremost representatives of the library. You will be working at the library’s public service desks as a member of a team to provide excellent customer service. You will also be required to become a passport acceptance agent (training provided). 

Your day-to-day will include: 

  • Bring positive energy to patrons of all ages through work at our public service desk
  • Help keep collections and the building neat and easy to navigate
  • Helping patrons at the circulation desk: checkouts, returns, renewals, new card registrations
  • Acting as a passport agent
  • Supporting programs and events
  • This role includes light lifting, bending, and handling materials throughout the day.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School degree
  • US Citizen
  • Comfortable with computers, the internet, basic MS office, and mobile devices
  • Flexibility to cover additional shifts


Recommended (but not required) qualifications:

  • Experience working or volunteering in a library setting
  • Experience with Koha ILS
  • Foreign language proficiency


Must have qualifications:

  • A love for learning, teamwork, and community
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for making the library a place people want to be

Senior Library Assistant

Hourly wage: $19.24/hour

24 hours a week, Monday ,Tuesday, Thursday 9:30-3:30 p.m., Wednesday 2-8, Saturdays twice a month from 9:30-3

Eligible for vacation time and sick time

The work: Senior Library Assistants are, above all, ambassadors of the library. You’ll staff the public service desk as part of a supportive, collaborative team that’s dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service. 

You will also train to become a Passport Acceptance Agent (we provide full training!).

Your day-to-day will include: 

  • Bring positive energy to patrons of all ages through work at our public service desk
  • Help keep collections and the building neat and easy to navigate
  • Helping patrons at the circulation desk: checkouts, returns, renewals, new card registrations
  • Acting as a passport agent
  • Preparing materials for interlibrary loan delivery and pickup
  • Running daily/weekly reports and gathering statistics
  • Assisting with onboarding, training, and supporting library volunteers
  • Supporting programs and events
  • May be responsible for the building as an in-charge person in the absence of senior staff

This role includes light lifting, bending, and handling materials throughout the day.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, 2+ years progressively responsible experience working in libraries, public service, or customer service related fields
  • US Citizen
  • Comfortable with computers, the internet, basic MS office, and mobile devices
  • Flexibility to cover additional shifts


Recommended qualifications:

  • Experience working or volunteering in a library setting
  • Experience with Koha ILS
  • Foreign language proficiency
