The United States will celebrate its 250th anniversary, or Semiquincentennial, on July 4, 2026, marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This milestone is being commemorated through a year-long series of events/programs in Roxbury Township.  Visit this page for updates from the Library and town about upcoming events happening in Roxbury throughout 2025 - 2026.


The Complete American Revolution - Three Part Series (Virtual Programs)

In celebration of the 250th anniversary in 2026 of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, join lecturer Joel Farkas for a three part virtual series on the complete American Revolution.
 

1/13/2026: THE ROAD TO REVOLUTION (1492-1776) 

From the Age of Antiquity and the first democracies to the Age of Sail and Christopher Columbus.  Includes the colonizing of America, the French and Indian War and George Washington, to the taxes, the protests, the violence, and the call to arms.

2/10/2026: INDEPENDENCE and THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR (1775-1783)

From the second Continental Congress and The Declaration of Independence to the people and events including Paul Revere’s Ride, Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Washington Crossing the Delaware, New Jersey.

3/10/2026: AFTER THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR (1783-1814)

Establishing our country with a new constitution and first President, George Washington.  From the American Revolution to the French Revolution to the War of 1812.


  
This program is funded by a grant from the New Jersey State Library’s REV 250: Examining the Semiquincentennial through a Jersey Lens - an opportunity for public libraries to celebrate New Jersey’s contributions and place in history.

Upcoming Events:

  • Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony – Monday, May 25th, 2026 (10am parade, 11am ceremony) – Paying tribute to all Veterans who fought for our freedom.
  • Roxbury's Beach Blast TBD – where the Township will not only kickoff the start of the summer season but also celebrate America's 250th anniversary with a fireworks show!

  • Morris County’s “Two If By Sea” campaign on Friday, April 18th, 2025 – commemorating the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s historic ride on April 18, 1775.  
  • Morris Canal Inclined Plane 2E celebration of restoration and unveiling of interpretive signs – Saturday, May 3, 2025 11am in Ledgewood at Morris Canal Park.  
  • Pathways of History Tours of the King House, King Store and Riggs Saltbox House on Sunday, May 4, 2025, noon – 5pm.  
  • Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony – Monday, May 26th, 2025 (10am parade, 11am ceremony) – Paying tribute to all Veterans who fought for our freedom.
  • Olde Suckasunny Day, Historic Main Street Walking Tour – Saturday, September 6th.Walking Tour of Historic Main Street at 10:30 am and 12:15 pm 
  • Alexander Hamilton as portrayed by Ian Rose - Sunday, September 7th, 3pm Theodore F. King Homestead, 209 Main Street, Ledgewood
  • Pathways of History Tours will be Saturday, October 4 and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
